• John worked an independent tile setter in the San Jose area. The general contractor took down the safety railing to do some work but did not put it back up. In order to complete his work and get paid John had to work around the other trades after hours without the safety rails. He fell 17’ breaking his knee cap, patella and was unable to work for a year. • The roofing company that I work for had me climbing building ladders to inspect and repair leaks on building roofs. As I was climbing the ladder attached to the building past the second floor the rung ladder construction changed. This forced me to take an extra long step and reach. • My husband and I were driving on a San Diego Freeway when we noticed a jacked up monster truck behind us. The truck was following too close and all we could see was the bumper in the rear view mirror when it struck us. We tried to speed up to get away but the truck hit us again. Because the monster truck was jacked up it caused our car to roll. My husband was ejected and died instantly. Dean sued the monster truck owner, lift kit installer and manufacturer. The legal fees and costs were free to me through trial. I paid nothing. The responsible parties refused to pay any money. We tried the case to a San Diego Jury and was awarded $3.3 Million Dollars. • I have been a salesman all of my life and was looking to retire with the last product. Commissions from sales have been my only source of income. A new start up medical product company asked me to take a risk and head up the sales department with sales being my only income. I almost starved in the beginning. However, I worked hard selling, promoting, and traveling the country to potential customers and health care providers. The company finally took off and emerged as the leader in the industry. My sales went from zero to $500,000 to $3Million over five years. The president would not pay me under the contract, stopped taking my calls and refused to see me. • John was a marine and served honorably in Iraq. We were married after he was discharged from Pendleton. He started working as an electrician on housing construction. We were ready to start a family. After all the danger John endured in Iraq I thought the rest would be easy. The look on his foreman’s face at my door one afternoon brought my world to an end. Suddenly and without warning a 20,000 pound water truck heading to a fire entered the intersection against a red light smashing into the side of Dan’s family car. He immediately rushed to his children who were broken and bleeding but breathing. The negligent fireman provided assistance and Dan went to his wife Rebecca’s side to say the Lord’s Prayer together before she nodded into coma. Dan’s arm was broken and the children recovered from horrific injuries. Rebecca did not and will not recover. The costs were all paid by the attorneys without any payment by the family. Dan was kept fully informed of all developments in the trial but never bothered with costs or fees. Legal representation and costs were free through trial. Through Grant’s efforts a settlement was obtained to provide for all medical care and schooling for the children and Rebecca’s in home care for life.
• I have been a rough carpenter all of my life. The building construction in downtown L.A. had numerous rain delays. The general contractor refused to keep the water out of the building and the sequencing was awful. The entire building leaked and there were puddles and ponds of water in the building. After the job got behind the general contractor insisted that the work continue even in the rain. One day I went to work and there was a cascade of water coming down the scaffolding that provided access to my work. The problem was reported to the general contractor who refused to take responsibility or repair it. I slipped and fell tearing up my right knee as my leg was caught between a set of steps.
