Construction site falls account for one of every three construction related fatalities. According to 2007 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were at least 442 construction worker deaths during 2007 as a result of falls. Falls may involve workers from every trade and occur in a wide variety of circumstances. The severity of fall injuries is not necessarily related to the distance of the fall. Catastrophic injuries can occur in falls of only a few feet.

Construction workers suffering fall accidents typically involve the following:

  • By far the greatest number of falls are from roofs, whether simply falling off, falling through a skylight or some other unprotected opening.
  • Falls at ground level caused by tripping hazards such as construction debris or materials. These accidents can sometimes be fatal when they involve objects like unguarded protruding rebar.
  • Falls at ground level through poorly constructed covers to subterranean levels of the project such as underground parking.
  • Falls from scaffolds which are commonly caused by improperly constructed scaffolds. Frequently scaffolds are constructed by mixing pieces from different scaffolds which can be an OSHA violation.
  • Falls from scaffolds due to a lack of guardrails or guardrails with openings at the ends of scaffold platforms.
  • Falls from portable ladders that are not positioned properly or have broken components such as rungs, steps, side rails and locking mechanisms.

Testimonials

I was in the construction industry for 27 years with no accidents but one day I fell over 20 feet and broke both legs and ankle. I was getting workers' compensation that did not cover my expenses and I was getting behind on my house and other payments. To make matters worse, I was not getting medical treatment for some of my injuries. I went on line and found CCAA and hired Grant and Dean. They prosecuted my case and I ended up with a settlement close to 2 million dollars. During my case Grant and Dean kept me informed and were always available to me. They hired the best experts and got me to doctors who were able to get me on the road to recovery. I didn't have to pay anything.

I live outside the state of California. I fell and broke my neck due to a defective boot product. Grant explained the civil lawsuit process and the timing without any pressure to retain him. After I decided to hire him as my lawyer he filed the civil case in San Diego Superior Court. He prepared all of the paper work and discovery with minimal work by me. I was included in the depositions of corporate defendants and representatives and explained the importance of each. He prepared me for my deposition and defended me during questionning. Litigation costs and expenses were paid without any obligation or hassle by me. Good experts were retained. conducted extensive and expensive tests then gave helpful opinions that helped resolve the case. The best medical doctors were obtained to examine and opine on my medical future. Grant and Dean went through days of mediations and attempted to resolve the case before preparing for trial. The case was finally resolved after trial call for one million dollars. Due to their efforts I am able to work part time because of neck limitations.
